My preparations

My preparations for Race Around Austria 2020 started back in October 2019 after the decision was made to try and reach the starting line.

As mentioned in the About section, me and the team managed to reach the the finishing line and the podium as second in the 1600KM distance in Race Around Denmark 2019.

The achievement has left us with a lot of experience and with a lot of things that worked very well, and a lot of things that needs to be changed during the preparations for Race Around Austria.

During the coming months I will try to make some blog posts about the different elements we work on during the preparation phase.

On the preparation list with their own separate tasks are:

Training: Training on the bike, core training, training plans coaching, mental training.

Gameplan: A plan in excel that guides us through the race and tells us if we are on schedule for reaching the finishing line as we predicted. The entire race route is built into the gameplan.

Race route: What do we get from the organisers and what we need to navigate for, in terms of map-data etc.

Navigation: How do we navigate on a route of 2200KM during 5,5 days.

Nutrition plan: We have both a plan for food and the level of energy that needs to be consumed. This also includes salt, magnesium etc.

Bike and position on the bike: I lost the feeling in both my hands after the race and suffered from shermers neck the last 200KM of the race

Shoes: After 600KM I started to feel hotspots under both feet.

Saddle: I had issues with wounds during RAD for approx. 900KM.

Bike clothes: Especially wind protection, chill protection, how the skin reacts to the fabric of the clothes, and how the general function of the clothes are.

Equipment: Lights, radios, tablets, electronics.
